Two-factor authentication (2FA)
Protect your Finmail account with an authenticator app or backup codes.
Two-factor authentication adds a second step after your password when signing in to Webmail.
Enable 2FA
- Open Settings → Account → Account security (
/mail/settings/security). - Choose Set up two-factor authentication.
- Scan the QR code with an authenticator app (Google Authenticator, 1Password, Authy, etc.).
- Enter the 6-digit code to confirm.
- Save your backup codes in a secure place — each code works once.
Sign-in with 2FA
- Enter your email and password on the sign-in page.
- When prompted, enter a code from your authenticator app or a backup code.
- You have a limited time window to complete this step before needing to sign in again.
If you lose access
| Situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| Lost phone / authenticator | Use a backup code at sign-in |
| Lost backup codes too | Email [email protected] from your registered address with proof of ownership |
| Too many failed attempts | Wait for the rate-limit period, then try again |
Tips
- Regenerate backup codes under Settings → Account → Account security if you use most of them.
- 2FA protects your Webmail sign-in. IMAP and SMTP use your mailbox password — see External mail clients.
