Two-factor authentication (2FA)

Protect your Finmail account with an authenticator app or backup codes.

Two-factor authentication adds a second step after your password when signing in to Webmail.

Enable 2FA

  1. Open Settings → Account → Account security (/mail/settings/security).
  2. Choose Set up two-factor authentication.
  3. Scan the QR code with an authenticator app (Google Authenticator, 1Password, Authy, etc.).
  4. Enter the 6-digit code to confirm.
  5. Save your backup codes in a secure place — each code works once.

Sign-in with 2FA

  1. Enter your email and password on the sign-in page.
  2. When prompted, enter a code from your authenticator app or a backup code.
  3. You have a limited time window to complete this step before needing to sign in again.

If you lose access

Situation What to do
Lost phone / authenticator Use a backup code at sign-in
Lost backup codes too Email [email protected] from your registered address with proof of ownership
Too many failed attempts Wait for the rate-limit period, then try again

Tips

  • Regenerate backup codes under Settings → Account → Account security if you use most of them.
  • 2FA protects your Webmail sign-in. IMAP and SMTP use your mailbox password — see External mail clients.
