Statement delivery email is not the same as your brokerage login

Broker and bank websites file more than one email. The address that lets you sign in is not automatically the address that receives statement notices, trade confirms, or 1099s. If you only changed the login, the next tax PDF can still land in the old inbox.

Keep Gmail for everyday mail. Issuers already file @gmail.com. This page is how those addresses split — not a Gmail alternative, and not a phishing or account-takeover guide.

A second Gmail is still the strongest $0 split inside Google. Most people should stop there. Choose another host only if this slice of mail should not live at Google.

Three addresses, usually not one

Address on file What it is for What it is not
Login / username How you sign in, reset a password, or get a 2FA prompt Not a promise that statements follow
Profile / contact email How the firm writes to you for account mail Often not paperless or eDelivery
Delivery / paperless / alerts Where statement, confirm, and tax-form notices go A separate screen — saving the profile does not always move it

A recovery or security email can be a fourth field. Do not point that at a box you never open. It is for account recovery, not a 1099 vault.

The issuer’s website remains the record. Email is a copy and a reminder.

Where people miss the second screen

Menus move. Each walkthrough links the issuer’s help.

Institution Login or profile is not delivery Guide
Charles Schwab Contact email vs paperless (and Alliance vs the retail site) Change Schwab statement email
Fidelity Profile email vs eDelivery; NetBenefits is another login Change Fidelity statements and tax forms
Vanguard Delivery settings vs plan Mailing preferences; a bounce can revert to paper Change Vanguard statements and tax forms
Interactive Brokers Client Portal email vs Alert Notifications Update IBKR notification email
Chase Profile email, Alerts delivery, and Paperless are three settings Change Chase statement email

Index of which firm to change: point brokerage and bank statements at a second mailbox.

K-1s and CPA threads are not a broker toggle. Give the accountant the same mailbox you used for delivery — where to receive K-1s and 1099s.

After you save

  1. Confirm the delivery screen, not only the sign-in email.
  2. Keep the old inbox until a live statement or tax notice arrives at the new address. One billing cycle is normal.
  3. Do not use a neglected Yahoo, Outlook.com, or Proton Free box as the only copy — consumer mailbox inactivity.

Where the new delivery address should be

You want Use
Isolation inside Google, $0 A second Gmail. Most people should stop here.
Swiss hosting and end-to-end encryption Proton Mail — paid Proton, not an unused Free account
Generic paid IMAP, not a finance-only product Fastmail — often enough
US-hosted mailbox for investing, banking, and tax, off Google [email protected] on Professional

Finmail is Virginia IMAP, not end-to-end encryption. @finmail.com is weaker than a domain you own. Do not point a Hong Kong or Singapore local bank at this box.

What this is not

  • Not “change your password email and the 1099 will follow.”
  • Not IRS e-file, not a CPA portal, not Legal Hold.
  • Not a request to migrate work mail off Workspace.
  • Not a cryptocurrency payment mailbox. Finmail does not send or receive BTC or USDT by email.

Professional is $29/mo, 14-day trial, card required, if the job is a finance-only box off Google.

Frequently asked questions

If I change my brokerage login email, do statements follow?
Usually not. Login, profile/contact, and paperless or eDelivery are separate records. Open the delivery screen at each firm.

Is the Fidelity profile email the same as eDelivery?
No. Fidelity sends a confirmation to a new profile address immediately. Statement and tax-form notices still follow eDelivery / Paper Mail Options, and NetBenefits is a second login.

Is a second Gmail enough instead of Finmail?
Often yes. A second Gmail is isolation inside Google and costs nothing. Most people should stop there. Choose Finmail only if this mail should not live at Google.
