Choose the identity that matches the job

Keep your current inbox. Open a US-hosted @finmail.com for investing, banking, and tax — then compare it with Gmail, Proton, Fastmail, and a domain you own.

What this page does not claim

We do not argue that Gmail or Outlook is “not enough,” or that AI saves an hour a day. A second Gmail is often enough if the job is only a split inside Google. Fastmail is often enough if you already want paid IMAP that is not Google — you can choose a US or EU primary region at signup. A mailbox on your own domain is still the stronger From identity. Proton is the better fit when Swiss hosting and end-to-end encryption are the job. Finmail is not a cryptocurrency payment mailbox and does not send or receive BTC or USDT by email.

Finmail vs Gmail

Personal Gmail versus independently hosted US IMAP at @finmail.com for investing, banking, and tax — not a Gmail alternative, and not a second Gmail.

Finmail vs Proton Mail

Swiss end-to-end encryption versus US Virginia IMAP. Proton if you want zero-access. Finmail if the mail may be server-readable and should stay in the United States.

Finmail vs Fastmail

Paid IMAP that is not Google versus a finance-only US mailbox. Fastmail is often enough if generic IMAP is the job. Finmail is not a Fastmail alternative.

Quick answers

Is Finmail a Gmail alternative?
Keep your current inbox. Finmail is not a Gmail alternative and not a Gmail overlay. Banks already file @gmail.com. The product is a US-hosted mailbox for investing, banking, and tax — keep Gmail for everyday mail.
Is a second Gmail enough?
Often yes. A second Gmail is isolation inside Google — same phone, recovery, and account — and it costs nothing. Most people should stop there. Choose Finmail only if this mail should not live at Google.
Should I pick Finmail or Proton?
Choose Proton if Swiss hosting and end-to-end encryption (zero-access) are the job. Proton can also be a finance-only box. Finmail is US Virginia IMAP: the server can read mail so on-demand AI and Secure Share work — that is less encryption, not more professional. If you want Swiss plus zero-access, stay with Proton.
Should I pick Finmail or Fastmail?
Fastmail is the closer architecture: paid IMAP that is not Google. At signup you can keep the primary copy in the US or the EU; an EU primary is still replicated to the US. If generic paid IMAP is the job, Fastmail is often enough. Finmail is a finance-only mailbox at $29/mo — not another US host, and not a Fastmail alternative.
Do I need my own domain?
No. Professional is [email protected] ($29/mo, 14-day trial, card required). Team is [email protected] ($59/seat/mo, DNS/MX, no trial). Your own domain is the stronger brand on From; a hosted identity is faster to start.
Should tax mail live in my work inbox?
If the thread is personal investing, K-1s, or your own return, a second mailbox keeps it out of the employer archive. Firm LP mail and deal mail stay on Workspace or Microsoft 365.
Will a bank accept @finmail.com?
Banks already file ordinary mailbox addresses, including Gmail. @finmail.com is a normal mailbox address — not a guarantee that every form will pass, and not stronger than a domain you own. A new domain can occasionally hit filters or extra review.
Does Finmail send or receive BTC or USDT by email?
No. Finmail is a US-hosted second mailbox for investing, banking, and tax. It is not a cryptocurrency payment product, and it does not send or receive BTC or USDT by email.
