How to change your Charles Schwab email for statements
Finmail Product
Charles Schwab will keep sending statements, tax documents, and service mail to whatever address is on the account. If that address is your everyday Gmail, the statements sit next to newsletters and shopping. This page is how to change the Schwab email — not an argument that Gmail is unsafe, and not a request that you migrate work mail.
Keep Gmail for everyday mail. Schwab already files @gmail.com. Changing the address only decides which mailbox receives the next statement.
Two settings, not one
Schwab stores a primary contact email and, separately, paperless / statement delivery. Updating the profile email does not always move statement notices. If the goal is statements in a different box, check both.
Menus move. Schwab’s own help is the source of truth: account statements and paperless enrollment. Advisor-managed accounts often use Schwab Alliance rather than the retail site; on Alliance, paperless is typically Profile → Paperless, not only the retail paperless URL.
Change the Schwab contact email
- Sign in at schwab.com (or Schwab Alliance if that is how you access the account).
- Open the profile control (usually the person icon) and choose Contact Information.
- Edit the primary email. Enter the mailbox that should receive Schwab mail. Save.
- Confirm any message Schwab sends to the new address, and to the old one if they still notify it.
- If you have more than one account, review each account’s contact email. Household and entity accounts are often separate rows.
If you cannot sign in, call Schwab or ask the advisor who already services the account. Finmail cannot change Schwab’s records for you.
Point statement delivery at the same mailbox
- Open schwab.com/paperless while signed in, or the statements / eDelivery area in the account menu.
- Confirm that statements, trade confirms, and tax documents use electronic delivery to the same address you just saved.
- Leave paper on if you still want a mailed copy. Electronic delivery is a preference, not a requirement of this guide.
Wait for the next statement cycle before you stop watching the old inbox. A change can take a billing period to show up.
Login and account quirks
- Retail vs Alliance.
schwab.comis self-directed. Accounts held with an advisor usually sign in at Schwab Alliance. Contact email and paperless both live under the profile icon; do not assume a retail change moved the Alliance profile. - Per-account paperless. Alliance and retail both let you enroll eligible accounts one by one (or “enroll all”). A brokerage account can be electronic while a 529 or a linked Schwab Bank account stays on paper — check the row, not only the primary email.
- Joint holders. A joint account can store a second person’s contact email. Change the person who should receive statements.
- Former TD Ameritrade. Those accounts now sit at Schwab. There is no separate Ameritrade email screen; use Schwab (often Alliance after an advisor conversion). Do not keep waiting on a retired TDA login.
- Not a local-brokerage page. Schwab International or a non-US affiliate is a different custodian. This walkthrough is the US retail / Alliance file.
Where the new address should be
| You want | Use |
|---|---|
| Isolation inside Google, $0 | A second Gmail. Same phone and recovery. Most people should stop here. |
| Swiss hosting and end-to-end encryption | Proton Mail |
| Generic paid IMAP, not a finance-only box | Fastmail (or another ordinary host). |
| US-hosted mailbox for investing, banking, and tax, off Google | [email protected] on Professional |
Finmail is independently hosted IMAP in Virginia, with commercial operations in Hong Kong. It is not end-to-end encryption. Mail on the server can be read so on-demand features work. A hosted @finmail.com address is a normal mailbox — weaker than a domain you own, and not a guarantee that every form will pass. A new domain can occasionally hit filters. Details: hosted vs custom domain.
This is not a phishing product. A dedicated mailbox does not stop Schwab impersonation. Treat unexpected “verify your account” links the same way you would in Gmail.
After you save
- Keep the previous inbox open until a statement or tax notice arrives at the new address.
- If you also use Fidelity, Vanguard, Interactive Brokers, or Chase, change those on their own sites. Schwab does not move them.
- Give your accountant the same address for your packets. They keep their portal. Where to receive K-1s and 1099s covers the tax split.
Professional is $29/mo, 14-day trial, card required; cancel in the billing portal before day 15. No MX change at work.
What this does not do
- It does not make
@finmail.comstronger than Gmail on Schwab’s file. Brokers already accept consumer addresses. - It does not replace Schwab’s website, app, or document vault. Statements still live at Schwab; email is the notice.
- It does not file your return, and it is not IRS e-file.
