How to change your Fidelity email for statements and tax forms
Finmail Product
Fidelity uses your email for account alerts, statement notices, and tax-form availability. If the address on file is your everyday Gmail, 1099s and statements land in the same inbox as everything else. This page is how to change that Fidelity email — not a guide to “account security,” and not a reason to leave your work suite.
Keep Gmail for everyday mail. Fidelity already files ordinary addresses, including Gmail. You are only choosing which mailbox should get the next notice.
Workplace retirement on NetBenefits is a different login than a brokerage account on Fidelity.com. Change each site if you use both.
Profile email and eDelivery
Fidelity’s own article is How to update your email address. After you save a new address, they send a confirmation to that address immediately.
eDelivery / paper mail is a second screen. Statement PDFs and tax forms can stay on paper, or notices can go to an address that is no longer the one you think. If the search intent is “Fidelity email for statements and tax forms,” complete both:
- Primary (and optional) email on the profile.
- eDelivery / Paper Mail Options — statements, trade confirms, and tax forms as separate toggles.
Fidelity documents that some mail is required and some is optional. Do not turn off legally required notices to “tidy” the inbox; move the destination instead.
Change the Fidelity profile email
- Sign in at Fidelity.com (or NetBenefits for a workplace plan).
- Open Profile (or the profile / settings icon) → Personal Information / contact details.
- Update the primary email. Add a second address only if Fidelity still needs a backup you actually read.
- Open the confirmation Fidelity sends to the new mailbox and finish any verify step.
- Open eDelivery / Paper Mail Options (Fidelity lists this next to the email article) and set statements and tax forms to electronic delivery at that same address — or keep paper if you want both.
Labels vary by account type. If you cannot find eDelivery, use Fidelity’s customer-service search while signed in, or call them. Finmail cannot edit Fidelity’s profile.
Login and account quirks
- Fidelity.com vs NetBenefits. Brokerage, IRAs, and most retail accounts sit on Fidelity.com. Workplace 401(k) / HSA sit on NetBenefits. eDelivery on one site does not move the other.
- Statements vs tax forms vs confirms. eDelivery toggles are separate. You can be paperless for monthly statements and still mail tax forms — or the reverse. If the search is “statements and tax forms,” tick both.
- Optional profile email. A backup address on the profile is not automatically the eDelivery destination. Set delivery explicitly.
- Charitable, 529, or Fidelity International. Donor-advised, some 529, and non-US Fidelity sites are different logins. This page is US retail / NetBenefits. Do not treat an international Fidelity affiliate as this change.
Where the new address should be
| You want | Use |
|---|---|
| Isolation inside Google, $0 | A second Gmail. Most people should stop here. |
| Swiss hosting and end-to-end encryption | Proton Mail |
| Generic paid IMAP | Fastmail. |
| US-hosted mailbox for investing, banking, and tax, off Google | [email protected] on Professional |
Finmail is independently hosted IMAP in Virginia. It is not end-to-end encryption. @finmail.com is not stronger than Gmail on Fidelity’s file, and it is weaker than a domain you own. New domains can hit filters. Changing the Fidelity email does not prevent account takeover; that remains passwords, 2FA, and Fidelity’s own recovery tools.
After you save
- Keep the old inbox until a statement and a tax-form notice (in season) arrive at the new address. Those two mail types are easy to split in eDelivery.
- Employer 401(k) mail on NetBenefits does not follow a brokerage change on Fidelity.com.
- If you also hold Charles Schwab, Vanguard, Interactive Brokers, or Chase, update those firms separately.
- For K-1s from partnerships and CPA threads, use where to receive K-1s and 1099s. Fidelity 1099s are only one counterparty.
Professional is $29/mo with a 14-day trial (card required; cancel before day 15).
What this does not do
- It does not replace Fidelity’s document vault. Email is usually a notice that a file is ready, plus a login wall.
- It does not file your return.
- It does not make Finmail a Fidelity alternative or an AI inbox.
