Ghana – Banku

Banku is the traditional cuisine of GHANA. This dish is made with CORN and CASSAVA dough. This dish is famous all around GHANA but especially in the southern region of Ghana which includes EWE PEOPLE, FANTE PEOPLE, GA ADANGBE PEOPLE. Banku is originated from the two countries GHANA and TOGO.

Ghana Ghana Ghana. Land of many cuisines. The meal I am about to write is usually very difficult for you to see in a Ghanaian home. It is usually prepared and served in Ghanaian restaurant rather than prepared at home.

Kontomire stew is a stew made from cocoyam leaves. This cuisine is very popular in Ghana and could be seen prepared and sold in restaurants and could also be prepared at homes since its ingredients are affordable.

The Ewe tribe from Ghana have another cuisine to take a taste from. Akple may seem slightly alike with Banku yet there is a big difference here. Akple is from Ewe tribe in Volta region while Banku is from Ga Tribe of the Greater Accra region.

Fante fante is a local dish that originated from the Fante tribe of the central region. This is the central region of Ghana. The Fante people are part of Ivorians that were separated.

Nkate nkawn is a Ghanaian cuisine. It is common Ghana, Cameroon and Nigeria. This cuisine could still be called G-soup. It is eating with boiled white rice or ripe plantains.

This cuisine from Ghana is mostly prepared along the coastal areas where Tilapia are easily found. Banku is none other but a stiff porridge prepared with Corn flour mixed with Cassava flour.
