How to change your Merrill email for statements and tax forms
Finmail Product
Merrill will keep sending statement notices, tax-form alerts, and service mail to the addresses on the brokerage profile. If that is your everyday Gmail, investing mail sits next to shopping. This page is how to change the Merrill email — not an argument that Gmail is unsafe, and not a request that you migrate work mail.
Keep Gmail for everyday mail. Merrill already files ordinary addresses, including Gmail. You are only choosing which mailbox should receive the next statement or tax-form notice.
This walkthrough is for a US Merrill investing relationship. Bank of America checking is a different login: change Bank of America statement email. A workplace 401(k) on Benefits OnLine is another site again.
Two settings, not one
Merrill stores profile / personal information and, separately, Go Paperless / document delivery. Saving a new contact email does not always move statement or tax-form notices. Paperless also lets you pick which email those notices use.
When a document is ready, Merrill typically emails a notice to the primary address. The PDF stays in the vault. Email is a reminder, not the statement itself.
Official pages (menus move; these are the source of truth):
- Help topics, including Go paperless and Update contact info: Merrill Edge Help & Support
- Advisor-held accounts: MyMerrill
- Self-directed: Merrill Edge
- Contact vs paperless on the BofA/Merrill file: Electronic Communications Disclosure
Change the Merrill contact email
- Sign in at the site you already use: merrilledge.com for self-directed, or mymerrill.com if an advisor holds the account.
- Open Profile (often under Profile & Settings). Choose Personal Information.
- Add or edit the email that should receive Merrill mail. Mark it primary if that is the box for notices. Adding an address may require a one-time passcode.
- Save, and confirm any message Merrill sends to the new address.
If you cannot sign in, call Merrill or ask the advisor who already services the account. Finmail cannot edit Merrill’s records for you.
On Merrill Lynch / MyMerrill, Bank of America’s disclosure points to Profile → Personal Information. Do not look for Bank of America’s Help & Support → Your Profile Information on the brokerage site — that path is Online Banking, on a desktop browser.
Point paperless and tax documents at the same mailbox
- Open Go Paperless / document delivery settings. On MyMerrill desktop this is typically Profile & Settings → Help & Support → Profile & preferences → document delivery settings. On Merrill Edge, look for Paperless Settings (the forms library describes applying delivery preferences and a selected email to Merrill accounts).
- Confirm statements, trade confirmations, and tax reporting use electronic delivery to the same address you just saved. You can enroll all document types, or customize by account.
- Agree to the terms if prompted. A joint owner may have to enter their own email so they can accept too.
- Leave paper on if you still want a mailed copy. Electronic delivery is a preference, not a requirement of this guide.
Wait for the next statement or tax-form cycle before you stop watching the old inbox.
Login and account quirks
- Merrill Edge vs MyMerrill. Self-directed investing is Merrill Edge. Advisor-held accounts usually sit on MyMerrill. Changing one profile does not move the other.
- Bank of America is not Merrill. Linked banking can share a sign-in experience, but checking statements follow Bank of America’s Paperless Settings. Change that bank separately.
- Workplace retirement. An employer 401(k) at Merrill is often Benefits OnLine, not Edge and not MyMerrill. Update that portal if that is the account you care about.
- Advisor-elected paperless. An advisor can request online delivery; you may still have to approve the email. Check the address that received the approval, not only the one you typed later.
- US file. This walkthrough is US Merrill Edge / MyMerrill.
The new address, and what this page does not do
A second Gmail is isolation inside Google at $0 — most people should stop here. Swiss hosting and end-to-end encryption are Proton Mail. Generic paid IMAP is Fastmail. [email protected] is only for US-hosted investing, banking, and tax mail that should not stay at Google. The mailbox table and Virginia IMAP notes live on the statement-email index.
Changing the delivery address does not stop impersonation mail. Treat unexpected “verify your account” links the same way you would in Gmail.
This walkthrough does not replace Merrill’s document vault or the mobile app. Statements still live at Merrill; email is the notice. It does not file your return, and it is not IRS e-file. It does not move Bank of America deposit statements or an employer 401(k) on a different portal.
After you save
- Keep the previous inbox open until a statement or tax notice arrives at the new address.
- Bank of America checking does not follow Merrill. Update Bank of America on its own site.
- Other US-rail firms sit on the statement-email index.
- CPA packets: where to receive K-1s and 1099s.
