How to change your Bank of America email for statements

Bank of America will keep sending statement notices, alerts, and service mail to the addresses on the Online Banking profile. If that is your everyday Gmail, bank mail sits next to shopping. This page is how to change the Bank of America email — not a credit-card-only tidy-up, and not an argument that Gmail is unsafe.

Keep Gmail for everyday mail. Bank of America already files ordinary addresses, including Gmail. You are only choosing which mailbox should receive the next statement notice.

This walkthrough is for a US Bank of America Online Banking relationship (checking, savings, and the statements that come with them). Merrill investing is a different profile: change Merrill statement email. Private Bank and small-business User IDs can be separate logins.

Three settings, not one

Bank of America splits profile / contact email, Paperless Settings, and tax-document enrollment. Saving a new address under Your Profile Information does not always move paperless notices. Tax documents follow a separate sign-up.

Official pages (menus move; these are the source of truth):

Paperless preference changes can take up to two months (about two statement cycles) to apply. Keep the old inbox through that window.

Change the Bank of America profile email

  1. Sign in to Online Banking on a desktop browser. Bank of America’s disclosure states that Help & Support is not available in the Mobile Banking app or the mobile-optimized site (bofa.mobi).
  2. Open Help & Support. Under Your Profile Information, follow the links to update contact information, including email.
  3. Save the mailbox that should receive bank mail. Confirm any message Bank of America sends to the new address.

If you cannot use desktop Online Banking, call the number on the back of your card or on the bank’s Contact Us page. Finmail cannot edit Bank of America’s records for you.

Merrill contact changes do not use this Help & Support path. On Merrill sites the disclosure points to Profile → Personal Information.

Point paperless — and tax documents — at the same mailbox

  1. Open Paperless Settings in Online Banking. Select the deposit and other eligible accounts whose statements should notify the new mailbox. Save.
  2. Treat tax documents as a second enrollment. Bank of America’s deposit paperless notice says tax documents keep a separate sign-up even when statements are already paperless.
  3. Review alerts if you use email alerts, so the destination matches the new primary address.
  4. View statements later under Statements and Documents. Email is usually a notice, not the PDF itself.

Wait for the next one or two statement cycles before you stop watching the old inbox.

Login and account quirks

  • Desktop for profile. Do not assume the mobile app can change the email on file. Use a desktop browser for Help & Support → Your Profile Information.
  • Merrill is another login. Linked investing does not move when you change Bank of America paperless. Update Merrill on Edge or MyMerrill.
  • Two User IDs. A small-business User ID is not the consumer profile. Change the ID that owns the statements you care about.
  • Paperless lag. Delivery-preference changes may take up to two months. A save today is not a promise that tonight’s notice already uses the new box.
  • US Bank of America. This page is the US rail. Local bank mail in Hong Kong or Singapore stays on the inbox you already use there.

The new address, and what this page does not do

A second Gmail is isolation inside Google at $0 — most people should stop here. Swiss hosting and end-to-end encryption are Proton Mail. Generic paid IMAP is Fastmail. [email protected] is only for US-hosted investing, banking, and tax mail that should not stay at Google. The mailbox table and Virginia IMAP notes live on the statement-email index.

Changing the delivery address does not stop impersonation mail. Treat unexpected “verify your account” links the same way you would in Gmail.

This walkthrough does not replace Online Banking, Statements and Documents, or the mobile app. It does not file your return, and it is not IRS e-file. It does not enroll tax documents just because deposit statements are paperless.
