A second email for tax season — keep work mail where it is
Finmail Product
Tax season concentrates the mail you would rather not mix with work: organizers, 1099-B packs, K-1s, and the thread with your accountant. If that traffic lives in the employer tenant, it follows retention, eDiscovery, and “reply all” rules you do not set.
Finmail Professional is a second mailbox for that split. It is not a campaign to replace the inbox on firm.com, and it is not practice software for the accountant on the other end of the thread.
What belongs where
| Thread | Where it belongs |
|---|---|
| Employer, deal team, firm LPs | Existing work suite |
| Your return, K-1s you receive, brokerage tax packs, the accountant as counterparty | A mailbox you control |
Give the accountant [email protected] for your packets. Do not ask their firm to move off Outlook. They already have a portal for their clients; Finmail is not a substitute.
When a PDF will be forwarded inside another office, prefer a password-protected Secure Share instead of a raw attachment. If they must reopen the same packet next week, do not use burn-after-read. The K-1-specific walkthrough is send a K-1 without a raw PDF in every inbox.
Why @finmail.com for this job
- Production in Virginia; commercial operations in Hong Kong. A US-hosted identity for tax and banking mail you do not want on a consumer From or in the company tenant. Not a nationality claim.
- No MX change at work. Professional is $29/mo with a 14-day trial (card required; cancel before day 15).
- Your own domain is still the stronger From — that is Team, a different job, no trial.
The broader split (investing and banking, not only tax) is a second mailbox for personal finance.
What this is not
- Not “Gmail isn’t enough for April.” Keep Gmail for mail that already works.
- Not IRS e-file, not SafeSend, not TaxDome. Those are the accountant’s tools.
- Not a promise that AI files your return. On-demand insights in the read pane are optional and metered.
