Send a K-1 without leaving a raw PDF in every inbox
Finmail Product
A K-1 is a small PDF with a long life. Once it rides as a normal attachment, every reply and auto-forward can clone it. You no longer control those copies.
This page is for you sending or forwarding a K-1 (or a similar tax packet) to an accountant, a co-investor, or counsel. It is not a pitch that accounting firms should replace SafeSend, TaxDome, or SharePoint. The accountant is the recipient, not the buyer.
Use a link when the file will travel
Attach the PDF when the recipient asked for email, the file is low-sensitivity, or you already share a portal.
Prefer Secure Share when:
- you expect the packet to be forwarded inside another firm
- the recipient does not need a Finmail account
- you want an expiry, a password on a separate channel, and the option to revoke the link
Do not use burn-after-read if the accountant has to reopen the K-1 next week. Burn-after-read is for a one-time view: after the first successful unlock, a short window remains, then the link stops working.
Send the password by phone or another channel that is not the same inbox as the link. Putting both on one message is weaker.
Step-by-step UI is in the Secure Share help article. Recipients read sanitized HTML. They can still screenshot what they see — a link is not a legal hold on their device.
The mailbox around the packet
Secure Share does not fix a casual From line. If banks or the accountant treat [email protected] as informal mail, the identity comparison is consumer mailbox vs professional From. If tax threads should not live in the employer tenant, use a second email for tax season.
Professional includes Secure Share: $29/mo, 14-day trial, card required. Work mail stays on Workspace or Microsoft 365.
Honest limits
- Not Proton. Zero-access encryption and Swiss hosting are Proton Mail.
- Not a data room and not e-file. Share the minimum thread.
- Not practice software. CPA firms keep the portals they already run.
- Hosted
@finmail.comis still a hosted suffix — weaker than a domain you own.
This is personal-finance mail, not a fund-wide LP distribution list. Firm LP packages stay on the company tenant.
