How to change your E*TRADE email for statements and tax forms

ETRADE from Morgan Stanley will keep sending statements, trade confirms, tax-form notices, and service mail to the addresses on the account. If that is your everyday Gmail, brokerage mail sits next to shopping. This page is how to change the ETRADE email — not an argument that Gmail is unsafe, and not a request that you migrate work mail.

Keep Gmail for everyday mail. E*TRADE already files ordinary addresses, including Gmail. You are only choosing which mailbox should receive the next statement or tax-form notice.

This walkthrough is for a US self-directed E*TRADE brokerage (and the Morgan Stanley Private Bank deposit account that may sit next to it on etrade.com). A stock plan login is separate. A Morgan Stanley Wealth Management advisor account is another site.

Two settings, not one

E*TRADE stores profile / account preferences (the email on file) and, separately, electronic delivery consent (whether statements, confirms, and other account communications arrive electronically). Saving a new profile email does not always keep you on e-delivery if that address later bounces.

Official pages (menus move; these are the source of truth):

If the email on file becomes invalid, E*TRADE may treat that as a withdrawal of electronic-delivery consent and send legally required communications on paper. Confirm the new address actually receives mail.

Change the E*TRADE profile email

  1. Sign in at etrade.com.
  2. Open Customer Service (or My Profile / Account Preferences — the consent page uses both names).
  3. Edit the email. Enter the mailbox that should receive E*TRADE mail. Save.
  4. Confirm any message E*TRADE sends to the new address.

If you cannot sign in, call 800-387-2331. From outside the US or Canada, ETRADE lists +1-678-624-6210. Finmail cannot edit ETRADE’s records for you.

Keep contact information current for another reason: unused accounts can escheat. E*TRADE’s own FAQ says to update the My Profile page and to sign in periodically.

Point electronic delivery and tax forms at the same mailbox

  1. After the profile email is saved, open delivery preferences on etrade.com (or call 800-387-2331) so account communications stay electronic to the new address.
  2. Confirm statements, trade confirmations, and tax-related notices use that mailbox. Year-end forms are often in the Tax Center after you sign in — email is typically a notice, not the PDF itself.
  3. If you revoked e-delivery by mistake, turn it back on before the next statement cycle.

Wait for the next statement or tax-form cycle before you stop watching the old inbox.

Login and account quirks

  • Stock plan is a second login. Equity awards and employee stock plans are not the same as the self-directed brokerage profile. Change the stock-plan portal separately; the account-info FAQ has a stock-plan topic.
  • Morgan Stanley Private Bank vs brokerage. Checking or savings at Morgan Stanley Private Bank (formerly E*TRADE Bank) can share etrade.com, but routing numbers and statements are not identical to the brokerage file. Review both if you hold both.
  • Advisor wealth vs E*TRADE. A Morgan Stanley Wealth Management relationship is not this walkthrough. Use the advisor site those accounts already use.
  • Invalid email can drop you back to paper. An undeliverable address is not only a missed notice — it can withdraw e-delivery consent.
  • US file. This is the US E*TRADE / MSPBNA file.

The new address, and what this page does not do

A second Gmail is isolation inside Google at $0 — most people should stop here. Swiss hosting and end-to-end encryption are Proton Mail. Generic paid IMAP is Fastmail. [email protected] is only for US-hosted investing, banking, and tax mail that should not stay at Google. The mailbox table and Virginia IMAP notes live on the statement-email index.

Changing the delivery address does not stop impersonation mail. Treat unexpected “verify your account” links the same way you would in Gmail.

This walkthrough does not replace etrade.com, the Tax Center, or the mobile app. Statements still live at E*TRADE; email is the notice. It does not file your return, and it is not IRS e-file. It does not move a stock-plan login or a Morgan Stanley advisor account.
