How to change your Capital One email for statements

Capital One will keep sending statement notices, alerts, and service mail to the addresses on the profile. If that is your everyday Gmail, bank and card mail sits next to shopping. This page is how to change the Capital One email — not a credit-card-only tidy-up, and not an argument that Gmail is unsafe.

Keep Gmail for everyday mail. Capital One already files ordinary addresses, including Gmail. You are only choosing which mailbox should receive the next statement notice.

This walkthrough is for a US Capital One checking, savings, or credit-card relationship on capitalone.com. It is not a brokerage how-to: Capital One Investing exited retail brokerage in 2019. A Discover card or bank login can still be a different site until Capital One tells you that account has moved.

Two settings, not one

Capital One splits profile / personal email and Paperless (per account). Saving a new address under Profile does not always enroll statement notices. Paperless itself requires a valid email on file.

Official pages (menus move; these are the source of truth):

Card paperless terms say Capital One may send a courtesy email when a statement is ready, and that you should open a Capital One email at least once in twelve months or notifications can stop. The PDF still lives in the digital account. Email is usually a notice.

Change the Capital One profile email

  1. Sign in at capitalone.com.
  2. Click your name or icon in the top right, then Profile, and edit contact information (or in the app: Profile → Personal Information).
  3. Change the primary personal email. You can add a secondary address; pick the mailbox that should receive bank and card mail as primary.
  4. Confirm any message Capital One sends to the new address.

If you have a Capital One branch account, Capital One’s checking help says to update contact information by phone or in the branch, not only online.

Finmail cannot edit Capital One’s records for you.

Point paperless at the same mailbox

  1. Sign in, open an eligible account, then Account Services & Settings → Paperless.
  2. Enroll the checking, savings, or card accounts whose statement notices should use the new mailbox. Save.
  3. Repeat for each product you care about. Linked profile email is shared; paperless is still per account.
  4. View later statements in the account’s statements area. Email is usually a notice, not the PDF itself.

Wait for the next statement cycle before you stop watching the old inbox.

Login and account quirks

  • Profile vs Paperless. Contact email is under Profile. Statement notices follow Paperless on each account.
  • Branch accounts. Some branch-originated deposits cannot change contact info only on the website.
  • Discover is often still Discover. The 2025 merger does not move every Discover card or bank login overnight. Until Capital One emails or writes that this account is ready on capitalone.com, keep using Discover or the Discover app. Capital One says the two brands can still issue separate tax forms.
  • Not a broker. Former Capital One Investing retail brokerage is closed. Do not look for a Schwab-style eDelivery screen here.
  • US Capital One. This page is the US rail. Local bank mail in Hong Kong or Singapore stays on the inbox you already use there.

The new address, and what this page does not do

A second Gmail is isolation inside Google at $0 — most people should stop here. Swiss hosting and end-to-end encryption are Proton Mail. Generic paid IMAP is Fastmail. [email protected] is only for US-hosted investing, banking, and tax mail that should not stay at Google. The mailbox table and Virginia IMAP notes live on the statement-email index.

Changing the delivery address does not stop impersonation mail. Treat unexpected “verify your account” links the same way you would in Gmail.

This walkthrough does not replace capitalone.com, paperless enrollment, or the mobile app. It does not file your return, and it is not IRS e-file. It does not migrate a Discover login that has not moved yet.

After you save

Professional is $29/mo, 14-day trial, card required. Cancel before day 15.

Frequently asked questions

Is Capital One profile email the same as paperless?
No. Profile / Personal Information is the address on file. Paperless is under each account’s Account Services & Settings. You need a valid email before paperless enrollment.

Does changing Capital One email also move Discover statements?
Not until that Discover account has moved to capitalone.com. Until Capital One notifies you, manage Discover on Discover.com or the Discover app. Tax forms can still arrive separately.

Is a second Gmail enough instead of Finmail?
Often yes. A second Gmail is isolation inside Google and costs nothing. Most people should stop there. Choose Finmail only if this mail should not live at Google.
