Pakistan – Traditional Ladu Pethi With Sauces and Salad

Introduction

Ladu pethi is a salty fried bhalla served with Tamarind and apricot sauces and salad. This is the most famous streetfood in Lahore. This is made from moong daal and chana daal and then deep fried in hot oil. The sauces, the pethi and the salad goes very well together. This is the perfect combination. Every person should try this. This has a smokey flavor which makes it extra special. The bhallas are little crispy from the edges and soft from inside and when it is dipped into the sauce it become more soft and juicy. This is the specialty of it which people love. It is served with

  • crispy fried bhallas
  • sweet dried apricot sauce
  • tangy tamarind sauce
  • crushed white radish

People are crazy for this yummy snack.In winters people wait for hours in line to get a plate of Lahori ladu pethi which is very famous in Pakistan.This is a little bit difficult to make because it has lot of elements like dahi baray.This is the most famous snack to eat at night when you want some light snack this is the best option.The texture of laddu are soft and little bit of crispy,sauces (chutney) has a smooth texture and the white radish is served raw which has a fresh and crispy texture.

Ingredients for making bhallas

  • Gram lentils 1 cup
  • white lentils 1 cup
  • salt 1 tsp
  • cumin 1 tsp
  • carom seeds 1/2 tsp
  • baking soda 1 tsp
  • baking powder 2 tsp

Method of cooking

Step 1

Take a large bowl and soak the gram lentils and white lentils for 3 hours.After 3 hours take a blender and add salt, cumin, carom seeds and the lentils and blend until a smooth paste is form and then transfer the batter in the bowl and add the baking soda and baking powder in the the bowl and mix well.Keep it aside for 2 hours

Step 2

Now take a large cooking pot and add oil to it and wait until the oil gets hot now take a big spoon of batter and fry until golden brown

Ingredients for making tamarind sauce

  • Tamarind pulp 1 cup
  • water 1 cup
  • sugar 2 tsp
  • red chili powder 1 tsp
  • salt 2 pinch

Method of cooking

Step 1

Take a pan and add the tamarind pulp,sugar, water, red chili powder, salt and cook for 30 minutes until a smooth consistency.Now take a bowl and transfer it to the bowl

Ingredients for making apricot sauce

  • Dry apricot 1 cup
  • water 2 cup
  • sugar 2 tbsp
  • sat 1 pinch

Method of cooking

Step 1

Soak the apricot in a bowl of water for 4 hours.Now take a pan and add the apricot,water, sugar, salt and cook for 30 minutes until smooth consistency.

Preparation

Take a plate and place the bhallas in the middle and then garnish with a splash of sauces and then put the grated radish on top.
