Pakistan – Traditional Delicious Chicken Paye (Chicken Feet)

Introduction

Chicken paye is one of the most eaten dishes in Pakistan. This is cooked in many countries like Pakistan, India, Bangladesh. This taste of it is similar to goat and cow feet but not exactly like that. Chicken feet have so many little bones in them so this is a little hard to eat and takes a little longer time to eat. But this dish is so yummy. All the people should try this once in their life. You can also add this to different dishes like

  • chicken paye soup
  • chicken paye gravy
  • chicken paye bbq
  • chicken paye salan
  • chicken paye shorba

This is very famous in Lahore. This is not available in high-class restaurants but this available in small restaurants like Dhaba. There is a very famous market in Pakistan called ”namak mandi”. You can serve this at parties as a starter or as a snack. The texture of it is so sticky and soft but the flavor is outstanding. The most famous dish of chicken feet is chicken paye shorba. The cleaning of it is a bit hard because the chicken feet has a thin layer of skin on it so it has to removed before cooking and nails are also dirty so we need to remove nails before cooking otherwise it will mix in the shorba and ruin the taste of it. These steps are very important.

Shorba is very thin gravy. This is made by adding a lot of water in it.

Cleaning of chicken paye (feet)

  • First of taking a large pot and fill it with the water and bring it to a boil. Then take a clipper and remove all the nails and then put the feet in the boiling water and take a knife and peel off the skin then wash it properly with cold water.

Ingredients

  • Chicken feet 1 kg
  • tomato (chopped) 1 small
  • onion (chopped) 1 small
  • yogurt 1/2 cup
  • salt 1 tsp
  • red chili powder 1 tsp
  • red chili flakes 1/4 tbsp
  • cumin 1 tsp
  • dry coriander 1 tsp
  • white pepper 1/2 tsp
  • turmeric 1 tsp
  • ghee 5 tbsp
  • water 7 cups

Method of cooking

Step 1

Take a large pan and turn the flame medium and add 2 tbsp ghee, red chili powder, red chili flakes, onion, turmeric, and chicken feet and saute it for minutes and then and 1 cup of water and cover it for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes set it aside

Step 2

Now take a large cooking pot and add the remaining water and bring it to a boil. Then add the chicken feet mixture to it and cook it for 15 minutes and cover the lid. Now add the remaining ghee to it. After 2 minutes add the yogurt, tomato and cook for about 10 minutes

Step 3

Now add cumin, dry coriander, white pepper, and salt and let it cook for 25 minutes. After 25 minutes you see that the feet are breaking it means that the dish is ready.
