Cameroon – Suya

Suya is a delicious appetizer you will commonly see in Cameroon or Nigeria. Just writing about this particular cuisine, I am already feeling as to prepare some or purchase some. Suya is a good appetiser as it helps stimulates the salivary glands which makes you want to eat more of it until it is finish, or helps you to eat real food. When I was sick of malaria, I didn’t have appetite to eat food, but when I saw soya, I ate 5 sticks of suya and after that, I felt like eating real food. The cuisine is so special in Cameroon and it is roasted around so many junctions in town in Cameroon. Suya is common in so many places around the world, But Nigeria and Cameroon are the common places I know of since I frequent visit Nigeria for business and Cameroon which is my country. 

Ingredients

  • Red meet or beef.
  • Vegetable oil
  • Ginger 
  • Onions 
  • Salt to taste
  • Curry powder 
  • Garlic powder

Procedure

  • Wash your meet and slice into brood thin sizes. It should not be too thin.
  • Put some salt to taste in a bowl and put your meat in it and mix with your hands well. make sure the salt is small since you are still to use Maggi. Allow it to fry for about an hour or two.
  • Wash your ginger, cut and blend.
  • Chop onions and keep aside.
  • Put your ginger into a bowl, together with your powder onions and garlic and keep aside. Add some pinch of curry powder to add up the flavor. 
  • Put some vegetable oil into the bowl and steer to form some paste. Add you powder Maggi and steer well. make sure it is not so sweet.
  • After an hour or two, take your meat and stick them onto a well sharpen and clean stick or well-designed metal for sticking soya. After doing that, take the paste and apply on the meat. Robe it well making sure it is oily enough.
  • Put the seat on the grill pan and turnaround from side to side until it is ready. If the paste on the soya dries of, add some of it when serving or add some vegetable oil to it and serve.
  • With sliced onions, serve.
