Singapore, Indonesia – Ayam Penyet

Ayam penyet is a fried chicken that is famous all around the world but especially in Singapore. The basic and important thing of this dish is the marination of chicken. All the taste of this dish depends upon the marination and the choice of ingredients for the dish. The word “AYAM” is called “FRIED CHICKEN”. This dish is very easy to make but we can say that the time taking dish because the time we required for the marination of chicken is more comparatively.

The chicken penyet or chicken fried, which is cooked in English, is made slowly and cooked twice in Singapore. It is first boiled with herbs and spices and then dried. This is a very well-cooked chicken.

The word Penyet means “SQUEEZED” so this dish is commonly called “SQUEEZED CHICKEN”. It is a Javanese term.

This chicken is modified according to the countries but this is famous all around the world, especially in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, China, etc.

PLACE OF ORIGIN

The place of origin of Ayam penyet is Indonesia.

ORIGIN AND HISTORY

Ayam Panyet was made first time at  Ayam Bakar Wong Solo. In the beginning, this dish was called Ayam Penyet Surabaya because it was more famous in Surabaya as compared to other regions.

AYAM GEPREK

Ayam geprek is also just like ayam penyet but it is little bit different from ayam penyet. Ayam geprek is fried chicken that is coated with batter and called ayam goreng tepung.

JAVANESE

Javanese is actually a language that is spoken by the people of Indonesia and called them as Javanese people. So that is why they named this dish in the Javanese language.

IGA PENYET

Iga penyet is actually very similar to the Ayam penyet but the difference is that it is made with the squeezed ribs of chicken and serve with spicy sambal paste sauce.

This is also origin from Indonesia and is named by the people of Indonesia “JAVANESE PEOPLE”.

RECIPE

INGREDIENTS

  • Shallots
  • garlic : 1/2 tbs
  • ginger : 1/2 tbs
  • salt : 1 1/2 tbs
  • black pepper : 1/4 tbs
  • red chili powder : 1 tbs
  • coriander powder : 1/2 tbs
  • cumin seeds : 1/3 tbs
  • vinegar : 3 tbs
  • soy sauce : 2 tbs
  • galangal
  • oil : 4 tbs
  • bay leaf : few
  • fish sauce : 5 tbs
  • tomatoes : 1
  • onions : 1
  • sugar : 1 tbs
  • shrimps

METHOD

  • Take a pan and add oil in it.
  • add ginger and garlic paste along with chopped onions.
  • fry them little bit.
  • add all the spices.
  • fry them on a medium heat.
  • leave it to blend it.
  • add chicken and all other ingredients and fry them
  • when chicken is start tendering.
  • leave it for 2 hours.
