Pakistan – Traditional Hareesa with Boiled Rice

Introduction

Hareesa is another name of goodness. It is combination of a thick garvy with meat and different spices in it.It consistency is like porridge. The word hareesa come from an Arabic word harees. It is a popular dish in Pakistan especially in Lahore. People eat this as a breakfast. In ramzan hareesa is always in the menu. This is similar to haleem. The specialty of this dish is it contain different types of lentils, meat and people like to add vegetables in the dish.It is high in protein beacause of meat (chicken) and the vegetables are healthy also. So its the best combination to have as a breakfast. Meat balls are made by chicken mince and add to the garvy.

This recipe is also know as sister of haleem.This dish is served to parties and many occasions.You can eat it alone but some people like to eat it with naan, chappati or rice.Rice is the best option to eat with hareesa because the consistency of hareesa mix well with rice.

Ingredients

  • Olive oil 5 tbsp
  • ginger paste 3 tbsp
  • garlic paste 3 tbsp
  • minced chicken 1 kg
  • salt 2 tbsp
  • green chili chopped 2 tbsp
  • turmeric 1 tsp
  • red chili flakes 2 tbsp
  • coriander 1 tbsp
  • chicken stock 2 cups
  • boiled wheat 2 cups
  • green lentils 1 cup
  • yellow lentils 1 cup
  • ghee 5 tbsp

For garnish

  • fried onions sliced 3 tbsp
  • lemons sliced
  • mint leaves
  • coriander leaves

Method of cooking

Step 1

Take a fry pan and salt, oil, ginger paste, garlic paste and saute until golden brown .Now add the chicken mince to the fry pan also add green chili, turmeric red chili, coriander and mix well then make small balls of the mixtureand fry the meat balls until dark brown.

Step 2

Take a cooking pot and add chicken stock and boil for 10 minutes then add wheat, green lentils and for 20 minutes.Now take a blender and blend the lentils mixture until smooth paste and again cook for 15 minutes then add the meat balls in the mixture.

Step 3

Now put this in a dish and garish with melted ghee, lemons,mint,coriander leaves and onions.
