Pakistan – Traditional Chapshuro (Flat Bread With Vegetable and Meat Filling)

About the dish

Chapshuro is one of the most famous and acceptable dish in Gilgit-Baltistan (HUNZA). Hunza is famous because of its natural beauty but it is more famous because of its yummy dishes and desserts. The texture of it is crispy from outside and the filling inside of it has a soft texture and the meat is tender. This is very hard to find in Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar etc. Some people like to give this a smokey flavor and more crunchier texture. This dish is mouth watering which make you droll.

Types of chapshuro

  • vegetable chapshuro
  • beef chapshuro
  • mutton/lamb chapshuro
  • chicken chapsuro
  • vegetable and meat chapshuro
  • chocolate chapshuro
  • corn chapshuro

The ingredients are very simple but the taste of it is very unique. This is prepared by adding any kind of meat, tomatoes, carrot, peas, potatoes, salt, red pepper, black pepper, white pepper, turmeric, coriander, green chilies, lemon juice and many other ingredients.

Ingredients for making filling

  1. Beef (small cubes) = 1/2 kg
  2. potatoes (small cubes) = 3
  3. peas = 1/2 cup
  4. tomato (chopped) = 2
  5. carrot (sliced) = 2
  6. onions (chopped) = 2
  7. salt = 1 tsp
  8. red chili flakes = 2 tsp
  9. green chilies ( chopped) = 3
  10. turmeric = 2 tsp
  11. dry coriander = 1 tbsp
  12. lemon juice = 2 tbsp
  13. ghee 4 tbsp

Method

  1. Take a pan and add the ghee and then add the beef and saute for 15 minutes then add the salt, red chili flakes, turmeric, dry coriander, green chilies and lemon juice. Mix well until all the things are combined and then cover the lid and cook for 20 minutes on low heat
  2. Now open the lid and mix and then add the potatoes, onions, carrot, peas, tomato, and saute again for 15 minutes.When the vegetables stared to cook turn off the flame.

Ingredients for making bread

  1. wheat flour = 2 cups
  2. plain flour = 1 cup
  3. salt = 1/ tsp
  4. water as needed

Method

  1. Take a large bowl and add all the ingredients and mix until the dough is formed. Now take a big piece of dough and roll it with the rolling pin.
  2. Take a pan and turn the heat on. Now take the rolled chapati and place on the pan. Now take 5 tbsp of filling put on the side now turn the other side on the top of the filling and now seal the bread so the filling stays inside the bread.
