Pakistan – Sweet Rice (Zarda)

Introduction

First of all I would like to tell you about the word zarda that what does it means. Zarda is a word which is derived from the Urdu language word which means yellow and because of food coloring is added that’s why it is called Zarda also. Sweet rice is a traditional sweet dish in Pakistan and this dish is served on almost on every celebration like Eid and marriage ceremonies. It is culture of Pakistan that on marriage ceremonies after lunch or dinner sweet rice are served as dessert. Sweet rice is a simple and delicious dish that is liked by every age of people either they are young child or old. Sweet rice ( Zarda) contained Almond, Milk and other healthy ingredients that are good to health and we know milk is an excellent source of vitamins. Almond contain lots of healthy fats, fiber, protein, magnesium and vitamin E and due to this I used to call it a healthy dish.

Sweet Rice (Zarda)

Today I have decided to share with you a sweet dish that is sweet rice because it is a culture of Pakistan that have some sweet dish as dessert after lunch or dinner. Most of the people love to eat sweet dish and for this purpose I have prepared this recipe that is easy to cook in short time. Time is to much precious for everybody, now with the help of this recipe cook your dessert in short time and enjoy this dish with your family.

Ingredients

  • Basmati Rice 500 grams
  • Sugar 400 grams
  • Milk 1 cup
  • Cooking Oil 1 cup
  • Green cardamoms 5
  • Ashrafi (Green+ Red) ½ cup
  • Coconut slice ¼ Cup
  • Kishmish ¼ cup
  • Almond 15
  • Orange color 1 tsp
  • Salt ½ tsp
  • Water 2 liters
  • Rice Boiling

First of all wash the rice in the water. Take a pan with water and put the washed rice in it and keep it on the flame. Pour salt and orange color and 1 tbsp of oil in it. Wait for 20 minutes till the boiling of rice. After boiling the rice transfer it in the strainer. Below in the picture the process of boiling and straining is given:-

Method

  • Take a large pan and add milk in it and put it on flame.
  • Put green cardamoms in it.
  • Pour the caster sugar in it
  • Put coconut slice in it and wait for 2 minutes
  • After 02 minutes put boiled rice in it
  • Put cooking oil in it and wait till 3 minutes
  • After 03 minutes put kishmish and almond in it and mix it well
  • Put Asharfi in it
  • And covered it and low the flame and wait 10-15 minutes
  • After 10-15 minutes sweet rice is ready to serve now put it in a dish.
  • Sweet rice (Zarda) is ready

Serve it and enjoy it with the family
