Gabon – Chicken Nyembwe

Without food will you leave. I guess you won’t. There is this common question that people often ask. Do you leave to eat, or you eat to leave? Simple. You eat to leave not leaving to eat. Many parents in thousands of homes, work tirelessly to provide their families and amongst the provision, apart from clothing and shelter, food is first. Food is an important necessity human survive on. That is why earth is the most habitable planet. There are some meals that are very spicy and others not. But there are still called food. This same food we eat may bring you complications if you don’t eat them appropriately in the right quantities. Very necessary. That is why you see some people are obsessed; some suffer from cancer etc. Food in Africa is so delicious. It hard you to mush of one thing on a single plate because In Africa, so many ingredients are put together instead to come out with a single meal. These ingredients are in small quantities but the end result is usually wonderful. Today, you will read on the preparation of chicken Nyembwe. This is a traditional meal in Gabon, Africa. Sometimes the traditional names may be difficult to pronounce, but never mind, focus on the guide and you will be successful in the preparation of this dish. 

Ingredients

  • Chicken
  • Palm oil 
  • Palm butter 
  • Maggi 
  • Pepper (optional)
  • Salt to taste
  • Onions (2)
  • Garlics 

Process

  • Prepare your chicken and roast on a grill pan whole. After roasting, cut into eatable slices, and roast again for some time making sure the blood is dry.
  • Chop onions and garlics
  • Place your pot o heat with the palm oil in it. 
  • Heat oil up and fry onions and garlics. When onions are translucent, add your chicken into the oil and stir well. Fry for about 10-15min.
  • Add salt to taste and maggi.
  • Add your palm butter and stir well. Reduce heat and allow for about 3min.
  • Serve with plantains or boiled white rice. 
  • To boil rice, put water in a pot and stand on heat. Measure your rice about 4 cups. And also take note of the water. Wash your rice well. When water has been heated add your rice in it with some salt to taste. Not too much salt please. Take note. This could take 15-20min to get ready. If rice needs water in the process of boiling, know how you adding it up. But careful. An error in quantity of water could make your rice marshy and to soft. 
  • Serve with prepared sauce or with fried ripe plantains. 
  • This process of preparing this Gabon traditional meal, we can see for our limited ingredients are being used are compared to other sauce. Adding a lot of spicy is your choice but that may result to a deviation of this traditional meal. There ingredients that you could add like ground ginger, curry powder and even tomatoes and pepper. if adding this ingredient, fry them when frying your onions and garlics before you add your chicken.
  • This cuisine is best served with boiled or fried ripe plantains.
