Cameroon – Sauté Spaghetti and Pork

Spaghetti is considered a fast or easy to prepare dish so most people have named it “last option”. This term last option was given by students especially university students and some secondary school students who leave away from home. Reasons spaghetti is called last option around student areas is because it is cheap, fast to prepare and easy to fine. With 1000 FRS cfa, a student will prepare a big pot of spaghetti, accompany it with bread and boom a good meal has been prepared. Spaghetti is hardly prepared in big homes as a mean dish since it does not last long in the stomach as many say it. So most often, big families prepares spaghetti for breakfast, to add in puree and to put in children’s launch boxes so they can eat at launch time. Sauté spaghetti though is a delicious meal prepared with pork and vegetables like carrots and green beans. This method or style of cooking spaghetti makes it more palatable to the eyes and it will certainly give a bellyful smile to the consumer. Spaghetti is prepared in a whole lot of different methods and styles with a range of accompaniments too, so spaghetti is really a life saver thus the name “last option”

Cooking process

Sauté spaghetti and pork is prepared by boiling and stewing

Cooking ingredients

  • 1 big packet of spaghetti
  • Fresh tomatoes
  • Onions
  • Half kilogram of pork
  • Groundnut oil
  • Carrots and green beans
  • White pepper
  • Green pepper
  • Green spices
  • Garlics
  • Maggi and salt to taste

Cooking process

  1. Wash pork well and cut into smaller pieces, put in a pot add a cup of water , some onions , maggi and salt and take to the boil
  2. When the pork is ready, remove and keep
  3. Slice tomatoes, onions, part of the green spices, green pepper and keep aside
  4. Wash carrots well and cut them up into a nice shape. Wash green beans and cut them up as well
  5. Cut the rest of the green spices, green pepper, white pepper  and blend together with garlics and put aside
  6. Put 3 liters of water in a pot and put on the fire. Also add salt to the boiling water too
  7. Allow to boil for 5 minutes, add the spaghetti in the water and cover the pot half way so that the water doesn’t boils and spill out making the cooking surface nasty
  8. When the spaghetti is ready, remove and put in cold water which should be drained off afterwards
  9. Put groundnut oil in a pot and put on the fire. When it’s hot, add the tomatoes, onions and sliced green pepper and green spices
  10. Stir until its done
  11. Now add the pork, carrots and green beans and the blended spices. stir it and allow to cook for 3 minutes
  12. Add maggi and salt and taste
  13. Lastly add the boiled  spaghetti into the content of the pot and stir well
  14. Cover the pot and allow to cook for 5 minutes
  15. When it’s done, remove and serve in a plate alongside some chilled juice
